Argyll?s Secret Coast is a great place to find the forager within. At the height of the summer fish are plentiful in the sea, and mackerel, pollock and cod are pretty easy to catch. You can fish off the rocks or the local piers or take a trip aboard Morag. Cooking up a freshly caught mackerel on a beach fire must be one of life?s greatest pleasures.
There?s also great fun to be had foraging for shellfish on the shore. You?ll find cockles, mussels, crabs and even razor clams. Make sure you know what you?re looking for by reading up and follow the ?r? rule ? only collect and eat shellfish when there is an ?r? in the month. Even if you don?t find anything to eat, endless happy hours can be spent poking around in rock pools rediscovering your inner kid.
The hedgerows have lots to offer up as well, from wild sorrel in the spring to blackberries in the autumn. You could also try your hand at stalking game with Winston Churchill.
